International Symposium on Civil Engineering 2026.

Background And Focus

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) stands as the nation’s foremost institution of engineering education, serving the country through its longstanding commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and professional consultancy. For over seven decades, BUET has nurtured visionary engineers and scholars who have shaped Bangladesh’s infrastructure, advanced technological frontiers, and emerged as leaders in government, industry, and academia both nationally and internationally, including distinguished figures such as Dr. Fazlur Rahman Khan whose pioneering work in structural engineering continues to inspire generations worldwide.

The Department of Civil Engineering at BUET is the largest and most dynamic department of the university, serving as a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s infrastructure development and engineering education. It has played a leading role in the conception, design, and supervision of major national projects including the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Jamuna Bridge, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Terminal 3, Payra Deep Sea Port, Karnaphuli River Tunnel as well as key urban and transport initiatives such as the Strategic Transport Plan for Dhaka City, the Inland Container Depot of the Chittagong Port Authority, the Hatirjheel Restoration and Rehabilitation Project, the Kuril Interchange, and the Inland River Container Terminal at Pangaon. The department’s research has significantly shaped engineering practice and policy in Bangladesh, with many outcomes incorporated into the Bangladesh National Building Code (1993, 2020). Its pioneering work in finite element modeling, structural dynamics, soil–structure interaction, and concrete technology continues to strengthen the nation’s technical capacity. Accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) of the United Kingdom in 1996, the Department of Civil Engineering at BUET remains a leader in advancing safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure.

The organizing committee is pleased to invite engineers, researchers, professionals, and students from around the world to the International Symposium on Civil Engineering 2026, BUET (ISCEB 2026).

With the theme “Towards Smarter, Safer and Sustainable Built Environment,” the symposium aims to promote knowledge sharing and inspire collaboration across academia, industry, and government to reimagine the future of infrastructure that is resilient, inclusive, and sustainable.

The specific objectives of the Symposium are:

  • To showcase research contributions and technical innovations across diverse fields of Civil Engineering.
  • To create a collaborative platform for faculty, students, industry professionals, and policymakers to exchange ideas and experiences.
  • To highlight the department's continued commitment to advancing civil engineering knowledge and addressing national and global challenges.
  • To foster the exchange of new ideas and identify emerging research opportunities aimed at addressing the country's future development needs and engineering challenges.
